Story Behind the Painting

After the Rain was inspired by Pyrostegia Venusta, better known in Venezuela as the Flor de San Juan.

Growing up in Venezuela I always associated this flower with the celebration of San Juan every June 24. It’s a tradition filled with music, dancing and community that celebrates both nature and culture.

Living abroad has changed the way I remember these moments. Distance has made me pay closer attention to the details I once took for granted and painting Venezuelan flowers has become my own way of preserving those memories.

I don’t paint these flowers as they appear in nature. I paint how I remember them and how they make me feel. Through bold colors expressive brushstrokes and layered textures I reinterpret them through my own experience as a Venezuelan living far from home.

After the Rain is part of an ongoing collection that celebrates the beauty of Venezuelan flora while sharing a piece of the place that continues to shape my work no matter where I am.
